Vees Host ‘Backs in Final Pre-Season Tune-Up

The Penticton Vees and Salmon Arm Silverbacks wrap-up their pre-season tonight at the SOEC. It's the second clash in as many nights, as the two teams skated to a 1-1 tie at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm Friday.

Both goaltenders were terrfic, as Olivier Mantha and Adam Clark combined to stop 61 of 63 shots. Mantha thwarted three Silverback breakaway attempts, including two from Landon Smith. Clark to his credit, made eye-popping saves off of Tyson Jost, Jack Ramsey and Ryan Gropp. Both Mantha and Clark matched each other save for save on Friday.

Brett Beauvais supplied the offense for the Vees when he let a cannon go from the right-circle that sizzled through Clark in the second to draw the Vees even. Alex Gillies showed off some silky mitts when he put the 'Backs out ahead in the first on the power-play.

Both teams have made line-up adjustments ahead of tonight's contest, as this is the last game for players to leave an impression and for both coaching staffs to evalute their roster; teams have to be down to 22 players by the Bauer BCHL Showcase next weekend.

Both teams are switching up goaltenders tonight as Hunter Miska and Angus Redmond will tend the twine. It may be a tough act to follow for some but Hunter Miska has shown he's very capable of turning out an effort like Manth did last night.  Redmond is no sluch either, as he's got a scholarship to Michigan Tech already sewn up and showed well in a pair of apperances against the Vees last season.

Tickets are just $5 for this one and are available at the Valley First Box Office at the SOEC or online, at www.valleyfirsttix.com

Fraser Rodgers and Trevor Miller are calling the game via an audio-only stream starting at 5:45pm; not the start time of 6pm.
