VEES CLOBBER CENTS ON THE ROAD
MERRITT, BC- The Penticton Vees dismantled the Merritt Centennials with a six goal third period en route to a 9-0 whitewash at Nicola Valley Arena on Wednesday.

The win pushes the Vees streak to 26 games; three from equaling the BCHL record.

Steven Fogarty paced the offense with two goals and four points; Wade Murphy also scored twice and five Vees had multiple point nights.

Fogarty opened the scoring just seventeen seconds into the first period; a back-hand over the glove of Lino Chiementi.

Fogarty was in on Penticton’s first power-play goal later in the period. The New York Rangers draft pick threaded a pass to Ryan Reilly who redirected the puck past the Merritt goaltender at 14:09.

The Vees trio of Fogarty, Joey Benik and Bryce Gervais were at it again, seconds into the middle frame.

Once again the line scored on the opening shift as Benik tucked the puck through the legs of Chiementi just twenty-one seconds in the second period.

That would be the only goal of the period, in which the Vees outshot the Centennials 18-8.

Penticton blew the hinges off the door in the third period, scoring six goals on sixteen shots.

Bryce Gervais kicked-off the offense with his unassisted tally just shy of the four minute mark. Gervais fired a wrist-shot from the high slot that snuck through the legs of Chiementi.

Fogarty notched his second of the game off a quick face-off win in the Merritt zone. He won the puck ahead and slipped by the defenseman before tucking the puck under the cross-bar at 11:09.

Then the floodgates opened; Penticton scoring four goals, all on the power-play, in under two minutes.

The Vees were handed a seven minute power-play when Richard Sabourin went after Bryce Gervais mid-way through the period.

Wade Murphy scored the first of four power-play goals at 16:08; DJ Jones scoring forty-nine seconds later.

The goals kept coming, after Jones made it a seven goal cushion, Murphy got his second of the period one minute and thirteen seconds after his first; twenty-four seconds after Jones’ strike.

Connor Reilly capped the scoring with the final power-play goal at 17:44; making it four goals in one minute and thirty-six seconds.
