NEWS: Vees Netminder Carter Serhyenko Commits To York University

PENTICTON, B.C. – The Penticton Vees are pleased to announce goaltender Carter Serhyenko (’02) has committed to York University of USports for the 2022/23 season.

Serhyenko, 19, joined the Vees following the holiday break and got into 15 games with Penticton, beginning on December 29th where he finished with a 10-2-0-1 record to go along with a 2.38 goals against average and a .893 save percentage in that time. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native also finished the year with a pair of shutouts, earning a 15-save blanking on New Year’s Eve against the West Kelowna Warriors and a 13-save shutout against the Trail Smoke Eaters on February 12th while Serhyenko won his final seven appearances of the season.

“I’m really excited for the opportunity to play hockey at York University,” commented Serhyenko, “My teammates, coaches and the entire Vees organization has made my short time in Penticton memorable. I’m hoping to end my junior career with a BCHL championship.”

Serhyenko joins a program in York that is located in Toronto, Ontario and play in USports, Canada’s collegiate hockey circuit. Serhyenko joins the Lions with Russ Herrington behind the bench, who has been at the helm since 2017.

The Vees will begin their final series of the playoffs, taking on the Nanaimo Clippers in the Fred Page Cup Final beginning with Game #1 on Friday, May 13th.
