NEWS: Guilbault named to Team Canada Red for 2022 Under 17 Hockey Challenge

PENTICTON, B.C. – Penticton Vees defenceman Gabriel Guilbault (’06) has been named to Team Canada Red’s roster for the upcoming 2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, which takes place November 3-12, in Langley and Delta, B.C.

“Gabe is an upcoming elite defenceman, and this is a well-deserved honour in making one of Canadas Under-17 teams,” began Vees’ President, General Manager & Head Coach Fred Harbinson. “I am confident he will do an outstanding job representing Canada, the Vees, and the BC Hockey League (BCHL) at the tournament.”

ROSTERS

Guilbault, 16, has suited up for three games this season with the Vees. The Burnaby, B.C. product played the 2021-22 season with the Burnaby Winter Club (BWC) Under-18 Prep team in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League. The 6’2, 163-pound blueliner collected 20 points (2G, 18A) in 30 games last season with BWC. He also won the 2021 WHL Cup with Team B.C. Last October.

The 2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge features seven teams: Team Canada Black, Team Canada Red, Team Canada White, Czechia, Finland, Sweden, and the United States. Each team will play six preliminary-round games, with the top four teams advancing to the medal round. The gold medal game is schedule for Saturday, November 12, at 5:00 pm PT. It will be the first time the tournament has been hosted since 2019, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vees are back in action Wednesday and Thursday at the 2022 BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack. Penticton faces the Chilliwack Chiefs tomorrow night at 7:00 pm PT, and the Alberni Valley Bulldogs at 1:00 pm PT on Thursday. Fans can catch both games on Bounce AM 800 and Hockey TV.
