Walton to learn As, Bs and Vees

Castlegar Rebels net minder Andrew Walton is on his way to try out for the Penticton Vees of the BCHL.

Last year the Vees invited him to their camp, but Walton did not make it.

?Last year they had an idea of who they were taking so I did not have an equal opportunity,? Walton said.

This year he has a chance at making the team and last year?s experience could prove helpful heading into this year?s camp.

Walton learned from last year?s try-outs the competition is tougher in the BCHL.

?It?s a faster game and the shots are harder and more accurate,? said Walton of the caliber of play in the Vees camp last year.

Walton has spent his off season training five days a week and working on his game. He was finally able to hit the ice again a couple of weeks ago to prepare for the Vees training camp.

?We?ll see how it goes. I hope to make the team and I think I have a good chance this year,? Walton said.

Camp starts on August 20 with the Vees taking part in five exhibition games on the week of August 25-29.

Good luck Walton, but I?m sure there will be some who want to see you back in Castlegar.
