Vees Win First of Road Trip in Quesnel 3-1

VEES BEATMILLIONAIRES 3-1 IN QUESNEL

 

QUESNEL, BC ? ThePenticton Vees are back to a game above .500 with a 3-1 road win in Quesnel onFriday Night.

 

Billy Faust stood tall in the Vees net, and the power playstruck for a pair in the first period in the win.

 

2:12 into the game the Mills grabbed the first goal when acarom of the end boards led to a great chance in the slot. Faust stopped DevinBalness from point blank, but Justin Hogan buried the rebound to make it 1-0.

 

The Vees responded later in the frame when Joey LaLeggiawired a one timer past Kirby Halcrow to event the game. The 5-on-4 power playgoal was set up by Tyler Hlookoff, and Garrett Milan at the 13:52 mark.

 

At 17:07 the Vees got their first lead of the night whenLaLeggia threaded a pass to Brad Robbins who buried from the left circle. The5-on-3 goal took stood as the winner, though the Mills pressed for an equalizerfor another two periods.

 

There was no scoring in the second period, but the Veesadded an insurance marker early in third when Garrett Milan stripped a defenderat the Vees blue line and made no mistake on a breakaway going high glove togive the visitors a two goal bulge.

 

Rookie net-minder Billy Faust was sensation late in thegame, making 15 saves in the third and 34 in total on Friday. The 19-year-old Fausthas two wins in two starts this season, while the Mills Kirby Halcrow took theloss, allowing three goals on 23 shots.

 

Special teams starred in the win as the Vees power play went2 for 7 on the night, while the penalty kill eliminated all five Quesneladvantages.

 

Saturday sees the Vees continue their Northern Road Trip inPrince George where they face the Spruce Kings at 7:00. Sunday the Vees finishtheir fourth game in four nights when they return to Quesnel to play at 5:00 onSunday. Pre-Game show on EZ Rock AM 800 starts twenty minutes prior to puckdrop for each game.

 

Next home action for the Vees comes next Thursday, the 30thof September when the Merritt Centennials face the Vees for the first time thisseason.
