The Penticton Vees will be seeking revenge on Saturday when they face the Vernon Vipers in the second half of a home-and-home. The Vipers earned their first win of the season on Friday night in Penticton, striking twice in a 45 seconds span in the first period and never relinquishing the lead, skating to a 3-2 victory. Dylan Walchuk, Jon Knisley and Trevor Fitzgerald all scored for the Vipers in the win, while Joey Holka had a goal and an assist, and Troy Stecher scored the first goal of his junior career in the loss for the Vees. The Vees came out of the gate flat footed in the first period, falling behind 10-2 on the shot clock, but finished the night outshooting the Vipers 25-23. The Vees scored a goal on two power play opportunities, while killing off both penalties taken. The game saw just four fouls assessed, and was uncharacteristically mild mannered for a Vernon and Penticton rivalry that is known traditionally for it?s physicality and intensity. Marcus Basara, Kyle Murphy, David Robinson and Patrick McGillis all added assists for the Vipers in the win. Garrett Milan, Joey LaLeggia had solo helpers in the loss for the Vees. Milan and Holka lead the team in points with four apiece. The Vipers have two points on the season, while the Vees have four. Both are looking up at the Salmon Arm Silverbacks who are (3-0-0-0) to start the season, while Quesnel remains the only other team that hasn?t lost; the millionaires have won both games they?ve played. Next action for the Vees comes Saturday Night from the Wesbild Centre in Vernon when the Vipers will look to even their record at (2-2-0-0) and the Vees will try to even the weekend set.
