Vees Overwhelm Surrey, Win 11th in a Row

The Penticton Vees were just too much for an overmatched Surrey Eagles squad Wednesday, as they thumped the Eagles 10-0 at the SOEC to extend their win streak to 11 games.

Matt Serratore, Riley Alferd and Lewis Zerter-Gossage all finished with three points and 13 Vees picked up at least a single point in the win.

It didn’t take long for the Vees to break the ice, as Demico Hannoun scored just forty-six seconds into the game. Hannoun potted his ninth of the season on a rebound after a Jarod Hilderman point-shot.

The Vees second goal of the night was milestone for defenseman Gabe Bast. He picked up his first career BCHL at 11:45, when he finished off an odd-man rush. Bast took a pass from Mitch Newsome and roofed the puck over the Eagles’ Daniel Davidson.

The Vees were at it again early in the second, as Riley Alferd made it 3-0 forty-nine seconds into the middle frame. Alferd turned and fired the puck off a Surrey stick and in from the right-circle.

The goals kept coming in the sandwich stanza, as the Vees scored six times in the second period. Hannoun bagged his second of the game five and a half minutes in on the Vees first power-play of the night. Hannoun buried a backdoor pass from Patrick Newell for his team-leading tenth at 5:33.

Cody DePourcq scored his first goal since returning to the line-up from injury less than two-minutes later. Newsome sprung DePourcq on a breakaway and the Penticton product wired a wrist-shot over the glove of Davidson at 7:20.

Matt Serratore got in on the fun six-minutes later, when he scored his first of two on the night. On another Vees power-play, Serratore took a pass from Alferd on the goal-line and slid the puck inside the post at 13:14.

Penticton scored twice more before the second period was out, building up an 8-0 lead after forty-minutes.

Jack Ramsey, fresh off from serving a penalty, broke down the right-wing and went five-hole at 18:05 for his second of the season. Zerter-Gossage capitalized on power-play fifty-five seconds later. The rangy forward corralled a loose puck in front and he too went five-hole for his eighth of the season.

The Vees picked up two more goals in the third period, the first coming from Serratore. The Air Force commit was all over a rebound at the side of the Eagles net for his seventh at 4:56. Miles Gendron scored his second of the year and second against Surrey at 18:14 when he banked the puck in off the defender in the crease.
