Vees land commitment from top Ontario defenceman Zach Nyman

PENTICTON, B.C. – The Penticton Vees Junior Hockey Club is pleased to announce 2008-born defenceman Zach Nyman has committed to the team for the 2024-25 season.

Nyman has been regarded as the top defenceman in his age group in Ontario, and one of the best skaters for his age. He was considered a top prospect for the Ontario Hockey League Draft before committing to Penticton.

“We are excited to have Zach choose Penticton as his next step in his hockey development path,” began Vees’ President, General Manager & Head Coach Fred Harbinson. “The new recruiting rules in the BCHL will allow our fans to enjoy more and more top level players who will ultimately choose our league before competing in the NCAA.”

Nyman, 16, had a standout season with the Vaughn Kings Under-16 AAA program in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL). The Toronto, Ontario, product racked up 60 points (10G, 50A) in 73 games this season. The left-handed shot defenceman was a standout at the recently completed OHL Cup, as he led his team to a second place finish. Nyman had seven points (2G, 5A) in seven games to lead all defencemen and was named to the OHL Cup All-Star team.

Nyman also wore the maple leaf this season, as he played for Team Canada at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics in Korea. He had a pair of goals in four games, as Canada finished fourth.

The Vees organization is excited to welcome Zach and his family to Penticton and the South Okanagan.
