Vees Dropped 5-1 in Westside

VEES DROPPED5-1 BY WARRIORS IN WEST KELOWNA

 

WEST KELOWNA, BC? The Penticton Vees will be looking to start a new winning streak Saturdaynight in Coquitlam, after a 5-1 loss to the Westside Warriors on Friday night.

 

Arriving in West Kelowna with four straight wins, the Veesfaced a Warriors club that had won eight of their last ten games in atightening Interior Conference race for the lone bye. In the end the Warriorsprevailed with three third period goals, and now move within just four pointsof the Vees, and five points back of top spot.

 

In the early going Max French netted his third goal of theseason at the 4:40 mark. The goal put the Warriors ahead by one, much to thedelight of the 1.209 fans in attendance at a loud and energetic Royal LePagePlace.

 

The Vees would even the score at 9:13 of the frame when MarkMacMillan buried his ninth of the season in just his twelfth game. MacMillannow has scored in each of his last five games ? the longest active goal scoringstreak in the BCHL.

 

Grayson Downing scored twice for the Warriors on specialteams. In the second period Downing potted the puck on the power play at 9:06 toput the Warriors up 2-1 – which was the score after 40 minutes.

 

Downing would score again to close out a three-goal thirdperiod for the home team with a pretty short-handed rush. Downing, who playedfor Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge, now has 17 goals to leadall Warriors players.

 

Quinn Gould and Michael King also scored in the third, aswell; the Warriors beat the Vees for the first time in four tries this season.

 

The Vees would finish 7/8 on the penalty kill, but two ofthe five Warriors goals came just seconds after Vees penalties had expired. TheVees didn?t score in seven power play opportunities.

 

Kevin Boyle earned the win for the Warriors stopping 28 of29 shots in the victory, while Billy Faust allowed five goals on 39 shots.

 

The Vees loss combined with a Salmon Arm win in Quesneldrops the Vees to a single point behind the Silverbacks for top spot in theInterior Conference.
