MCCLURE’S HAT-TRICK POWERS VEES
DUNCAN, BC– Brad McClure scored all three goals and Nic Renyard made 17 saves for his first BCHL shutout, as the Penticton Vees blanked the Cowichan Valley Capitals 3-0 Saturday. The win is the Vees tenth in twelve games and their seventh in the last eight games.
Friday the Vees didn’t manufacture a single power-play against Victoria in the 3-2 double-overtime loss. Saturday the Vees had three in the first period alone, and they didn’t let it go to waste. Brad McClure scored his first of three on a five-on-three power-play. The Vees quickly worked the puck around the top of the slot, and McClure finished the passing play by rifling a shot over Derek Dun’s blocker at 12:38. McClure’s first period goal was the first time in four games the Vees scored first.
In the middle Frame McClure added another and doubled the Vees lead. An outlet pass from inside the Vees zone found its way to McClure, who split the Capitals defense before beating Dun high over the shoulder at 13:59; The Vees out ahead by two after forty minutes.
McClure put the finishing touches on his natural hat-trick in the final period. Early in the third, McClure pounced on a rebound in the right-circle, and put a shot off the base of the post and past Dun at 1:38. Ryan Gropp walked in from the right-corner but was denied on a jam play at the side of the net; the rebound squirted free to McClure who made no mistake.
Nic Renyard picked up his first career BCHL shutout, in front of a large contingent of family and friends. Renyard, a Ladysmith product, played his minor hockey in Duncan as a kid. The 17-save win was Renyard’s second in as many starts and improved his record to 2-1.

Vees Notes
The shutout was the Vees third clean-sheet of the season and all three have come in the last eight games. With an Assist, Wade Murphy extended his league-best point streak to 10 games. Mike Rebry and Louie Nanne both had their point streaks come to an end. The Vees are now 5-0-0 when scoring first and a perfect 7-0-0 when leading after the second period. McClure’s three goals give him seven on the season; second on the team behind Rebry. The Vees move to 10-1-0-1 on the season and sit six points clear of second place in the Interior Division.
