Stecher’s Unforgettable Night

Sunday, November 14th, won’t soon be forgotten about by Vancouver Canucks’ fans,  Penticton Vees’ fans, or by Troy Stecher for that matter. The current Canucks rookie and former Vees’ defenceman scored his first NHL Sunday afternoon, in the Canucks 5-4 overtime win against the Dallas Stars. Stecher helped complete the comeback, when he tied the game with under two-minutes left in the third period.

Ironically enough, Stecher made a great play at the blue-line against fellow BCHL alum and Stars’ Captain Jamie Benn, before scoring from the top of the right-wing circle on a low slap-shot that got through Stars’ goaltender Kari Lehtonen.

Troy Stecher chats about his first NHL goal

Stecher was named the first star of the game, as he picked up his first NHL goal and his third point in his seventh game. Though his brother and nephew were there to witness the milestone goal, prior commitments kept his parents from being there to see the goal. All the more reason for Stecher to score another.
