Stecher to make Canucks Debut Tonight

The Vancouver Canucks announced Troy Stecher will make his debut Tuesday night against the Ottawa Senators at Rogers Arena. Stecher was recalled from the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League Monday, after the Canucks’ Chris Tanev was hurt on the weekend.

Stecher is in his first pro season and has played in four games with registering one assist and logging four penalty-minutes, “I don’t want to play just one game, I want to make a career out of it,” said the former Penticton Vees Captain.

The 22-year-old Richmond, BC, product signed with the Canucks this summer after finishing his junior year at the University of North Dakota. Stecher helped guide the Fighting Hawks to their eighth NCAA national championship in April. Stecher led UND defencemen in goals (8) assists (21) and points (29).

Stecher played three seasons in Penticton from 2010 to 2013, winning the Fred Page Cup and RBC national championship in 2012. Stecher also was named the RBC Cup Top Defenceman in 2012, and was the Interior Conference Top Defenceman in 2013.
