NEWS: Vees Alumni Zach Driscoll Named Senior CLASS Award Winner

PENTICTON, BC. – Penticton Vees alumni Zach Driscoll has been named the Senior CLASS Award winner for the 2021/22 season, awarded annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I Men’s Hockey.

Driscoll, who completed his collegiate career with the University of North Dakota in his 5th year, posted a 2.34 goals against average and a .908 save percentage in 34 games with the Fighting Hawks this season. The Apple Valley, Minnesota native spent the previous three seasons with Bemidji State University and in five years of college hockey, registered a 2.23 GAA and a .917 SV% and 9 shutouts n 136 career games played between the Fighting Hawks, Beavers and St. Cloud State Huskies.

The 25-year-old netminder was part of the Vees program in the 2015/16 season, playing 26 games while collecting a 21-4-0 record along with a 1.90 GAA and a .933 SV% with 4 shutouts. In the playoffs that season, Driscoll earned a 1.89 GAA and a .925 SV% and a shutout in that span, winning the BC Hockey League’s Top Goaltender award and posting the best GAA and SV% of any netminder that season.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character, and competition.

Driscoll is the first Vees alumni to receive the Senior CLASS award.

The Vees advanced to the second round of the BCHL playoffs with a Game #5 victory over the Trail Smoke Eaters on Thursday night at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
