NEWS: Philippe Chapleau Commits To St. Lawrence For 2021/22 Season

PENTICTON, BC. – The Penticton Vees Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce defenseman Philippe Chapleau (’00) has committed to St. Lawrence University for the 2021/22 season.

Chapleau, 20, joined the Vees in late November following the team’s Okanagan Cup victory after being acquired from the Longueuil College-Francais in the Quebec Junior Hockey League (QJHL). Chapleau posted 21 goals and 113 assists for 134 points in 132 games played over three seasons with his hometown team. The 5’8”, 165-pound blue liner held the most assists among any other defender in the QJHL last season, registering 47 assists in 44 games played, finishing the season with 55 points while being named to the QJHL First All-Star Team.

 The Longueuil, Quebec native has represented Canada on a national level, playing for Team Canada East in the 2019 World Junior ‘A’ Challenge. Chapleau posted a goal and three assists for four points in five tournament games and was named to the WJAC All-Star Team. 

“I feel incredibly grateful to have the chance to continue my hockey career at St. Lawrence,” commented the newest Saints commit in Chapleau, “I want to thank my family and coaches who have supported me throughout my career and a special thank you to the Vees organization, who allowed me to realize my dream of playing college hockey.”

St. Lawrence University is located in Canton, New York and plays out of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) in the National Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCAA) Division I. The Saints are coached by Brent Brekke, who has been at the helm behind the bench since the 2019/20 season.
