GAME PREVIEW: Vees Visit Northern Capital For Tilt With Spruce Kings

The Penticton Vees (14-2-0-0) nake their final trip of the season to BC’s Northern Capital as they take on the Prince George Spruce Kings (10-6-0-0) on Wednesday night at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

Penticton comes into Wednesday night’s game winners of each of their last six games including a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Vernon Vipers on Saturday night at Kal Tire Place. Brett Moravec scored a pair of goals while Ethan Mann and Josh Nadeau added markers in the four-goal 3rd period for the win. Kaeden Lane turned aside 25 of the 28 shots he faced in his 10th win of the season.

The Vees and Spruce Kings will meet for the third time this season when the teams come together in Prince George on Wednesday and each team has earned a victory on their home ice after a 3-0 victory in favour of Penticton at the South Okanagan Events Centre at the end of October. Luc Wilson and Ethan Mann each scored in the second period while Jackson Nieuwendyk finished off the game with an empty net tally to preserve the win. Kaeden Lane turned aside each of the 13 shots thrown his way in the Vees goal.

The goal scoring streak of Vees forward Josh Nadeau continued on Saturday night in the come-from-behind victory over the Vipers. The University of Maine commit has now scored in each of his last 6 games and in 8 of his last 9 contests, leading the Vees in goal scoring with 13 markers on the season. Over the course of his last 6 games, Nadeau has registered 7 goals and 2 assists for 9 points over that span while earning his 2nd game winning marker of the season on Saturday in Vernon.

Two goals in Saturday’s win over the Vipers pushed forward Brett Moravec to five goals on the season and has now collected points in four of his last five games. The University of Wisconsin commit has posted four goals and two assists for six points over that span, including a shorthanded marker. With his two goals on Saturday, the Airdrie, Alberta native now has four multi-point games this season, including a seven-point outing against the Powell River Kings on October 30th.

The Prince George Spruce Kings come into Wednesday night’s affair looking to keep their winning ways going after a 3-1 victory over the Vernon Vipers last Friday night at Kal Tire Place. Simon Labelle, Kilian McGregor-Bennett and Nick Rheaume each found the back of the net for the Spruce Kings while Aaron Trotter turned aside 21 of the 22 shots thrown his way in his 7th win of the season.

Sitting 6th in the BCHL in scoring, Spruce Kings forward John Herrington has earned 10 goals and 23 points on the season while earning points in seven of his last eight games, including 4 goals and 7 assists for 11 points in that span. The Lake Superior State commit has played in 46 career games with the Spruce Kings, scoring 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points over his BCHL career.

The Spruce Kings power play has been a big contributor to the overall offence of the team, scoring 23 goals on the man advantage, accounting for 38% of the team’s overall goals, scoring 60 on the season. At 34.3%, the Spruce Kings power play is tops in the league while Prince George possesses a 36.6% man advantage on home ice, going 15-for-41 at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
