Game Four Recap: The Penticton Vees suffered their first loss of the BCHL Playoffs on Wednesday, falling 3-2 overtime in Game Four at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm. It was the Vees’ first loss of the postseason and their first loss in 26 games. A win streak that dated back to February 10th.

Cal Arnott and Aydar Suniev scored for Penticton in regulation, as they held leads of 1-0 and 2-1. Goaltender Luca Di Pasquo was tagged with his first lost of the BCHL Playoffs, as he stopped 33 of 36 shots. The power play went 1-2 and the penalty kill was 2-2.

Game Five Preview: For the first time in these playoffs, the Vees are playing over the minimum number of games in a series. Tonight, is Penticton’s second crack at winning the Interior Conference and punching their ticket to the BCHL Fred Page Cup Final against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

Tonight’s Game Five at the SOEC is the first time the Vees have an opportunity to win the Interior Conference on home ice since 2017. The Vees are undefeated at home in the playoffs and regular season. In fact, the Vees have won 40-straight games at the SOEC dating back to April 1, 2022. An opportunity they don’t want to squander.

Forward Josh Nadeau enters tonight’s game riding a nine-game point streak. Nadeau has 19 points (9G, 10A) over his last nine games. Defenceman Frank Djurasevic has six assists in his last five games. Bradly Nadeau was held pointless in Game Four, his first pointless game since March 26th. Including the regular season, he has been held pointless in just six of the Vees’ 65 games this season.

Head Coach: Tyler Shattock

2023 Playoffs: GP 12 9-4

Home: 5-2

Away: 4-2

GF: 46

GA: 37

Power Play: 25% (10/40)

Penalty Kill: 71.8% (28/39)

Scoring Leader: Ethan Ullrick (5-10-15)

Game Five Preview: The Silverbacks staved off elimination with their come-from-behind overtime win on Wednesday. Isaac Lambert was the OT Hero, scoring three and a half minutes into the extra frame. It was a huge sequence in overtime at both ends of the ice for Salmon Arm. Goaltender Matthew Tovell made a game-saving, series-saving stop on Josh Nadeau on a breakaway moments before Lambert scored.

Salmon Arm’s top six made an impact at home, in particular Ethan Ullrick. The Silverbacks’ forward had three goals over the two games in Salmon Arm earlier this week. Owen Beckner also got his first two points of the series over the last two games, picking up an assist in each of the last two games. Depth production was key too, as Maddux Martin has two points in the last two games.

The Silverbacks played the Vees tough at home, as both games went beyond regulation and both games came right down to the wire. Can Salmon Arm do it on the road? They have won four of their six road games in the BCHL Playoffs, but now need to be the team to beat Penticton at home. In two road games in this series, they have been outscored 11-3.
