FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Tuesday, April 9, 2013

PENTICTON, BC–The British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) announced Tuesday that Penticton Vees forward Brock Balson is the Gongshow Player of the Week, for the week ending April 7th. It’s the second straight week a Vees player was named the league’s best, as Louie Nanne was given the honour last week.

Last week, Balson potted a pair of overtime winners including the series-clincher in game five, as the Vees took out the West Kelowna Warriors in the Interior Conference Final. Balson kick-started a third period rally in Game 3 with his first of two goals in the game. Balson’s second of the night was the game winner midway through double-overtime.

In the fifth and deciding game, the power-forward tipped a James De Haas shot from the circle just 1:44 into overtime, to send the Vees to their second consecutive Fred Page Cup Final.

The Kamloops native had three goals and four points in the series with the Warriors and in nine playoff games, Balson has four goals and seven points. In 47 regular season games split between Penticton and Salmon Arm, Balson netted six goals and 25 points.

James De Haas was given an Honourable Mention, as he had three assists in as many games. The Vees are set open the Fred Page Cup Final in Surrey against the Eagles this Friday at 7:15 pm. The game can be heard on EZ Rock AM 800, www.penticton.myezrock.com, or you can watch online at www.fasthockey.com
