The Penticton Vees Jr. ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce forwards Riley Alferd (95) and Cody DePourcq (95) have committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Bentley University respectively.
Both players are committed to their respective schools for the 2015-2016 season.
Vees President, General Manager and Head Coach, Fred Harbinson, says the two players will bring important intangibles to their schools, “I am very proud of Cody and Riley. Both will bring an energy and commitment to winning to their respective teams.”
Alferd, 19, is enjoying a career year in his second season with the Vees. The Vancouver, Washington product leads the Vees in goals (17) and points (34). Both his goal and point totals have surpassed his total offensive output in 2013-2014. Alferd has developed into one of best two-way centerman in the BCHL. The speedy forward has a prominent role on both the Vees power-play and penalty-kill. In one and a half seasons with the Vees, Alferd has amassed 24 goals and 58 points in 89 career regular season games.
The Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks are ranked 12th in both the USA Today and USCHO.com national polls but are second in the Pairwise Rankings. The Pairwise is used to seed the NCAA tournament. The Mavs this season are 10-4-2 and 6-3-1 in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) under Head Coach Dean Blais. Recent Vees alum James Polk is in his senior season at UNO.
DePourcq, 19, is in his fourth and final season with the Vees and recently played his 200th career BCHL regular season game. In 27 games this year, the hometown product has seven goals and 13 points. DePourcq set career highs in goals (20) and points (38) last season in 58 games. DePourcq has earned the reputation as one of the hardest-working players in the BCHL. To date, DePourcq has accumulated 36 goals and 91 points in 202 career regular season games. He’s the only active player from the 2012 RBC Cup championship team.
The Bentley Falcons are located just outside of Boston in Waltham, Massachusetts, and play in the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA). The Falcons are 8-8-2 on the year and 6-4-2 in conference. The Falcons are led by Head Coach Ryan Soderquist, who’s in his 12th season in charge and is a Bentley graduate. The Falcons current roster includes six BCHL alumni, including two former West Kelowna Warriors and one Vernon Viper.
