25 Vees alumni to play in 2023 NCAA Division l Men’s Hockey Championship

19 former Vees are included in the 16-team 2023 NCAA Division l Men’s Ice Hockey tournament, which begins Thursday, March 23. 16 teams are vying for a berth in the 2023 Men’s Frozen Four Championship, which beings April 6, at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.

Tournament Bracket

The 2023 NCAA Division l Men’s Ice Hockey tournament is split up into four, four-team regionals. The four regionals are in Fargo, ND, Bridgeport, CT, Manchester, NH, and Allentown, PA. TSN in Canada will broadcast the tournament. ESPN will have coverage in the US. Additional broadcast information available HERE.

Conference Champions

Minnesota State Mankato: Adam Eisele, Ryan Sandelin, David Sylie, Luc Wilson

The Mavericks won their second consecutive Central Collegiate Hockey Association Mason Cup on Saturday, defeating the Northern Michigan Wildcats 3-2 in overtime. Minnesota State will face St. Cloud State in the Fargo Regional on March 23.

St. Cloud State Huskies: Grant Cruikshank

The Huskies won the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Frozen Faceoff Championship in St. Paul, MN, on the weekending, beating Colorado College in the championship game. Alum Grant Cruikshank had a goal and assist in the title game. This is the Huskies second NCHC Frozen Faceoff crown, previously winning in 2016.

Canisius Golden Griffins: Stefano Bottini, Ryan Miotto

Canisius won their second ever Atlantic Hockey Association postseason championship, beating Holy Cross 3-0 on home ice in Buffalo, NY. Canisius will square-off against Minnesota in the Fargo Regional on Thursday.

Michigan Wolverines: Steve Holtz

The Wolverines repeated as Big Ten Hockey Tournament Champions over the weekend, defeating the Minnesota Gophers 4-3 in the tittle game in Minneapolis, MN. Third-seeded Michigan face ECAC champs Colgate Friday in the Allentown Regional.

Colgate Raiders: Ryan McGuire, Alex DiPaolo

Colgate captured the 2023 Whitelaw Cup, as Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey Men’s Tournament Champions. The Raiders beat Harvard 3-2 in the title game in Lake Placid, NY. Colgate

Boston University Terriers: Jay O’Brien, Cade Webber, Jamie Armstrong, Quinn Hutson, Tristan Amonte

The Terriers won their 10th Hockey East Championship on Saturday, beating Merrimack 3-2 in overtime at TD Garden in Boston, MA. Alum Jamie Armstrong had an assist in the win for BU. It was BU’s first Hockey East title since 2018. The Terriers now face Western Michigan in the Manchester Regional on Thursday.

Denver Pioneers: Massimo Rizzo

Denver faces Cornell in the Manchester Regional on Saturday. DU are the defending national champions.

Cornell Big Red: Peter Muzyka, Jack Lagerstro

Cornell makes a trip to New Hampshire to face the 4th-seeded Denver Pioneers in the Manchester Regional.

Merrimack Warriors: Ben Brar, Devlin O’Brien

Merrimack earned a tournament berth in the tournament after losing in the Hockey East championship game to BU and finishing with a 23-13-1 record this season. Merrimack takes on second-seeded Quinnipiac in the Bridgeport Regional on Friday.

Quinnipiac Bobcats: Yaniv Perets, Jacob Quillan, Desi Burgart

The Bobcats were one of the top teams in the ECAC but were upset in overtime by Harvard during the tournament playoffs in Lake Placid, NY. Quinnipiac still earned a tournament berth after a strong season that saw them put together a 30-4-3 record, led by Mike Richter and Hobey Baker Awards finalist and Vees alum Yaniv Perets.

Penn State will battle the Michigan Tech Huskies in the Allentown Regional on Friday.
