Rizzo, Reid named to Team Canada U17 roster

Penticton, BC: The Penticton Vees are proud to announce that two of their players will represent their country at the international level as Massimo Rizzo and Luke Reid have made the cut for Team Canada at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. They are two of 66 players named to Team Canada.

The event takes place in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, British Columbia from November 5-11 and sees eight teams compete for gold. Canada sends three teams, Black, White and Red, along with Russia, United States, Finland, Sweden and the Czech Republic.

Reid, from Warman, Saskatchewan, has suited up for nine games with the Vees so far this season recording five assists. Previously, Reid spent two seasons with the Battlefords Stars of the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League. In 82 games, Reid scored 12 goals along with 26 assists.

Rizzo, from Burnaby, is in his first full season with the Vees after appearing as an affiliate player last season. This year he has a goal and three assists in seven games. Last year Rizzo appeared in three regular season games, seven playoff games, six Western Canada Cup games and five Royal Bank Cup games with the Vees. He was also named the Canadian Sport School Hockey League’s MVP after recording 53 points in 28 games with the Burnaby Winter Club.

Reid and Rizzo join Tyson Jost, Dante Fabbro, Griffin Mendel and current teammate Jonny Tychonick as Vees players to make the U-17 squads in recent years. Jost, Mendel and Tychonick played for Team White while Fabbro for Team Red.

The two will be assigned a team colour at a later date.
