Preview: Vees host Langley for first Wicked Wednesday

Penticton, BC: The Penticton Vees (8-0-0-1) host the first of seven Wicked Wednesday’s this season tonight as they welcome the Langley Rivermen (5-3-6-0) to the South Okanagan Events Centre at 7:00. All admission for those 18 and over to tonights game is $5, while under 18 is still free.

The Vees pushed their unbeaten streak to nine games on Saturday night against the Victoria Grizzlies. Lukas Sillinger and Grant Cruikshank scored in the first period before Dakota Boutin and Chris Klack rounded out the scoring in the second and third periods respectively.

Adam Scheel wasn’t busy in the Penticton net over the first 40 minutes of the game as he faced just seven shots. His three-period total finished at 21 as the Grizzlies had some push back in the third, but Scheel made 19 saves to improve to 5-0-1 on the year in the 4-2 win.

The Rivermen were in West Kelowna last night, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Warriors. West Kelowna scored two empty-net goals to make the score look more lopsided than it was. Langley captain Brendan Budy scored one of his teams goals, pushing his season point total to 19 in 14 games, good for third in the league.

While Langley may have just five wins so far on the season, almost all of their games have been decided by one goal. After last nights loss to West Kelowna, now 11 of Langley’s 14 games this season have been decided by a single goal.

Last season the Vees and Rivermen met three times because of their game at the BCHL Showcase. Penticton won all three games, with Owen Sillinger racking up five goals.
