Match Report: Suniev, power play stays red-hot in come from behind win over Salmon Arm

Penticton, B.C.- The Penticton Vees power play was the catalyst in a 5-3 come from behind win over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, Wednesday at the SOEC.

Penticton scored four times on six power plays, as they erased a 2-0 first period deficit to extend their win streak to 21 games.

Bradly Nadeau and Aydar Suniev each scored twice, and Josh Nadeau scored the other Vees’ goal. Suniev finished with five points and Bradly Nadeau had three points. Defenceman Ryan Hopkins had a pair of assists. Luca Di Pasquo stopped 18 of 21 shots for his 15^th win.

CJ Foley and Jayden Grier scored in the first period for Salmon Arm, as they led by a pair of goals after 20 minutes.

Josh Nadeau scored early in the middle frame to make it 2-1, as he scored his 13^th on the power play at 2:34.

Salmon Arm replied with a power play goal from Ethan Ullrick at 12:16 as the Silverbacks went ahead 3-1 midway through the frame.

Penticton then got back-to-back power plays late in the second period and got back-to-back goals from Bradly Nadeau. Bradly made it 3-2 with his 21^st at 16:41, then he scored his 22^nd of the season at 18:52 to tie it, 3-3. His first goal coming on a 5-on-3 power play, then his second during an extender man advantage, after the Silverbacks were handed a four-minute high-sticking penalty.

Suniev scored his two goals in the third period. Hi first turned out to be the game-winning goal at 6:25, on another Vees’ power play. Bradly fired a cross-ice pass over to Suniev for the one-timer. His 15^th goal on the year made it 4-3. Then the 18-year-old put the game away with his second goal of the night, 16^th of the season, on a breakaway with five-minutes to go. Thomas Pichette made a great lob pass down ice from his own end to spring Suniev on the breakaway.

GAME NOTES

Suniev extended his point streak to 10 games with his five-point (2G, 3A) night. Suniev now has 11 points in his last three games. Penticton’s power play has scored 11 goals over the last three. With his three points Wednesday, Bradly has moved into a tie with older brother Josh for the BCHL scoring lead, as each has 45 points.

Prior to the game, the Vees held their Ring of Honour Induction ceremony for former broadcaster Al Formo and former defenceman Duncan Keith.
