Vees-Silverbacks Playoff Preview

Penticton, BC– The Penticton Vees will face the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in the BCHL Interior Conference Semi-Final best-of-seven series, starting Friday, March 15th at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

 

The Vees finished first in the Interior Division with a record of 35-16-0-5 and have home-ice advantage throughout the Interior Division playoffs.

 

The season series between the two teams favoured the Vees, as they won five of the seven meetings, including two of three at the SOEC. The Vees outscored the Silverbacks 19-10 in the season series and posted two shutouts.

Sam Mellor led all Vees in scoring against the Silverbacks, collecting two goals and nine points. Mellor was closely followed by Troy Stecher (2-6-8) and Wade Murphy (3-3-6).

 

Chad Katunar was the goaltender of record for all seven games against the Silverbacks. The 19 year-old fashioned together a 5-1-0-1 record with a 1.41 goals-against average and a .950 save-percentage including two shutouts.

 

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks return to the BCHL Fred Page Cup playoffs after a one year hiatus. Head Coach Scott Robinson guided the Silverbacks to an impressive finish to claim the last playoff spot in the Interior Division. Salmon Arm won four of their final five games, all on the road and they finished the regular season with a 26-24-2-4 record.

 

Evan Anderson led the Silverbacks in scoring against the Vees as he had three goals and four points. Right behind Anderson was Harlan Orr (2-1-3) and Shane Hanna (0-3-3).
