Penticton, BC: The Penticton Vees are pleased to announce Patrick Newell has signed an entry-level contract with the New York Rangers following his collegiate career at St. Could State University. Newell was a member of the Vees during the 2014-15 season. His contract begins in the 2019-20 season.

That year, Newell led the Vees in scoring with 16 goals and 31 assists for 47 points in 56 games. In the Fred Page Cup playoffs, Newell added three goals and 11 assists in 22 games as the Vees won the BCHL championship.

Newell’s best efforts came at the Royal Bank Cup in Portage, Manitoba as he scored four goals and two assists in just five games. Unfortunately the Vees would be eliminated in the semi final.

Once making the jump to the NCAA Newell increased his point total each season with the Huskies with 22 as a freshman, 24 as a sophomore, 27 as a junior before exploding for 47 points in his senior season. His 47 points was third in NCAA scoring and put him as a top-10 Hobey Baker Award finalist.

Newell’s collegiate career came to an end Friday as the Huskies lost to American International College 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
