Penticton, BC: The Penticton Vees are pleased to announce three of their players have been voted as league all-stars. The votes are gathered from the league’s play-by-play broadcasters.
Defenceman Jonny Tychonick was voted as a first team all-star on defence, along with the Wenatchee Wild’s Cooper Zech.
Tychonick, from Calgary, scored nine goals and added 38 assists in 48 regular season games in his second year in the BCHL. His 47 points were more than double what he scored as a rookie last year. He also represented Canada at the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge, winning gold with Team Canada West in Truro, Nova Scotia. He was ranked on NHL Central Scouting as the 45th ranked North American skater for this years NHL Entry Draft. He will attend the University of North Dakota next season.
Goaltender Adam Scheel was voted as a second team all-star. Scheel, from Lakewood, Ohio, finished near the top of every statistical category for BCHL goaltenders this season. In his first year north of the border, the 18-year-old goalie posted a record of 29-10-2-3 with a 2.08 goals against average, .927 save percentage and three shutouts. He will also attend the University of North Dakota next season.
His win total lead the BCHL, while he finished second in goals against and fourth in save percentage amongst qualified goalies. He was also ranked by NHL Central Scouting as the 23rd ranked North American goalie for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft in June.
Defenceman Nicky Leivermann was voted to the league’s All-Rookie Team. Leivermann, from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, was limited to 43 games this season but still scored 10 goals and added 27 assists. The 19 year old was selected 187th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, and will attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall.
