Suniev, Nadeau named BCHL Stars of the Week

PENTICTON, B.C. – The BC Hockey League (BCHL) announced the Three Stars of the Week on Monday, with Penticton Vees forwards Aydar Suniev and Josh Nadeau named the second and thirds Stars, for the week ending March 5th.

2nd Star- Aydar Suniev

Suniev was the BCHL’s top goal-scorer last week, as he scored five goals in the Vees’ two wins over Merritt and Trail. The 18-year-old winger recorded his second hat-trick of the season Friday, in the Vees’ 13-1 win over the Centennials. The 2023 NHL Draft prospect scored once in the first period and then two more times in the third.

For his encore performance a night later in Trail, Suniev scored a pair of goals in Penticton’s 7-2 triumph over the Smoke Eaters. He scored a power play goal in the second period and finished off the scoring in the final frame.

Suniev, who is committed to the University of Massachusetts , enters this week on a 10-game point streak with 11 goals and 19 points over that stretch. He is not only the top Rookie in scoring in the BCHL, but Suniev also sits third overall in the league scoring race with 76 points (37G, 39A) in 43 games.

3rd Star- Josh Nadeau

Nadeau tied for the league lead in points last week with six in two games. The older Nadeau brother had three goals and six assists in a pair of wins on the weekend.

The future University of Maine Black Bear had three points in Friday’s victory against Merritt. Nadeau scored twice and added an assist in the convincing win.

The next night in Trail, the 19-year-old was a catalyst in the Vees’ 7-2 come from behind win against the Smoke Eaters. Nadeau scored the tying goal in the first period, as Penticton erased an early 2-0 deficit. He also added two assists as part of back-to-back three-point games on the weekend.

Nadeau’s point streak is at eight games and counting, with 22 points (12G, 10A) over that span. He has seven-straight multi-point games.
