Penticton, BC. – The Penticton Vees kicked-off parents’ weekend in style Friday, with their 8-1 win over the Price George Spruce Kings at the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC).
With many player’s parents in attendance, the Vees scored a season-high eight goals, as they won their second in a row and extended their point streak to 17 games. Penticton’s home win streak now sits at 49 games and counting.
Thomas Pichette, Conyr Hellyer, and Attila Lippai each had a pair of goals in the win. Pichette finished with a game-high four points. 12 Vees had at least a single point in the win.
Andrew Ness picked up his fourth win of the season, as he stopped 21 of 22 shots in the Vees’ crease.
Penticton came out of the blocks running, as they went up 3-0 inside the first 15 minutes of the game. Meier, Hellyer, and Zack Stringer all scored in the opening frame, as Penticton outshot Prince George 15-5.
Meier made it 1-0 just under five minutes in after he scored from the bottom of the face-off circle. Stringer doubled Penticton’s lead when he tipped in Cal Arnott’s pass whilst on the powerplay at 9:29. Hellyer finished off the first period scoring, as put the puck underneath the goalies after a turnover by Prince George along the boards.
Despite the Vees outshooting the Spruce Kings 17-9 in the middle frame, it remained 3-0 going into the third period. The Vees then put up five goals on 15 shots in the final 20 minutes of regulation to pull away. Lippai and Pichette each scored twice in the final frame and Hellyer picked up his second of the night as well.
Prince George spoiled Ness’ shutout bid when Kilian McGregor-Bennett scored just shy of the six minute mark in the third.
