Chilliwack, BC: After splitting their two-game Vancouver Island road trip, the Penticton Vees (1-2-0) continue their string of six-straight games away from the South Okanagan Events Centre to begin the season. The Bauer BCHL Showcase runs Thursday through
Saturday the Vees were in Victoria against the Grizzlies dropping a 4-3 game. Lukas Sillinger, Luke Loheit and Ryan Sandelin scored for Penticton, but the Grizzlies capitalized on defensive zone turnovers by Penticton.
The Eagles meanwhile are still searching for their first win of the season. Sunday afternoon they were at Prospera Centre, playing the Chilliwack Chiefs, and watched a 2-0 lead after the first period slip away in a 4-2 loss.
In 2017-18 the Vees went 2-0 against the Eagles with a 7-1 win at home before a 5-3 win on the road. In the blowout victory Penticton went 4 for 7 on the power play as Grant Cruikshank leading the way with two goals and an assist.
On the road, Penticton found themselves trailing 3-2 after 40 minutes before Owen Sillinger tied the game just 28 seconds into the third with a shorthanded goal. Michael Campoli gave Penticton the lead and Dakota Boutin hit the empty net for the win.
The last time the Vees had a 10 a.m. game at the BCHL Showcase was during the 2016-17 season against the Langley Rivermen. Penticton won 6-4 thanks to a hat trick from Owen Sillinger.
Due to the early start time there will be no broadcast of the game on EZ Rock AM 800, but the game is still able to be viewed online at www.hockeytv.com.
