Preview: Vees look for four-game streak in West Kelowna

Penticton, BC: The Penticton Vees (13-6-1-2) will try and hit a season high four-game winning streak Tuesday night as they travel to West Kelowna to play the Warriors (14-8-0-1), who just had an eight-game streak of their own snapped Sunday afternoon.

Saturday, the Vees tied the game with just 1:38 remaining in regulation before Ryan Sandelin scored the overtime winner against the Trail Smoke Eaters. James Miller’s blast from the left point was his seventh goal in the past seventh game, sending it to overtime.

Eric Linell and David Silye scored in the first and second periods while Derek Krall finished with 19 saves, none bigger than a penalty shot in overtime on Jeremy Smith, to preserve the win.

West Kelowna was riding an eight-game winning streak heading into Sunday’s game in Merritt, but found themselves down 5-0 early in the second period en route to an 8-3 loss.

The win put Merritt back into top spot in the Interior Division with the Vees and Warriors both two points behind them.

Tuesday’s game will be the third meeting of the season between the Vees and Warriors, with West Kelowna picking up two regulation wins. October 19, Brock Baier turned in a 52 save performance, robbing the Vees of a victory as West Kelowna won 3-2.

Eight days later the two teams met at the South Okanagan Events Centre, and despite a 2-0 lead after one and a 3-2 lead in the third, Penticton would drop the game by a score of 5-3.

The Vees will get set to host the Warriors the very next night for their third Boston Pizza Wicked Wednesday of the season.
