PENTICTON, BC. – The Penticton Vees Hockey Club is pleased to announce the team has committed to forward Jackson Nieuwendyk (’02) for the 2021/22 season.

Nieuwendyk, 18, is a familiar name in hockey circles with Jackson’s father Joe enjoying a National Hockey League career that spanned over the course of 1,200+ games, including three Stanley Cups with the Calgary Flames, Dallas Stars and New Jersey Devils. Joe is also an Olympic gold medalist and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011.

Much like his Dad, Jackson has carved a nice career for himself before making his way to the Peach City. The Dallas, Texas native has played the last two seasons with the Sioux City Musketeers, suiting up in 93 games over his tenure in the United States Hockey League (USHL) and skated in 4 playoff games last season for the Musketeers.

The 6’0”, 179-pound forward is strong in all three zones of the ice and spent the beginning of his hockey career playing within the Dallas Stars AAA program. Nieuwendyk began at the U13 level and proceeded to playing with the U16 club before joining the USHL.

“I’m really excited and looking forward to getting things started in Penticton with the Vees,” stated Nieuwendyk, “Having the chance to play in Canada and get a feel for a great fan base is something I can’t wait to experience.”

The Vees would like to welcome Jackson and his family to the organization, the City of Penticton and the South Okanagan.

The Vees will begin their 2021/22 season on Friday, October 8th in renewing a historic rivalry against the Vernon Vipers at the South Okanagan Events Centre. Season tickets for the upcoming campaign are now available to purchase with ticket packages available for as low as $9 per game.
