James Miller named BCHL player of the month

Penticton, BC: The Penticton Vees are proud to announce defenceman James Miller has been named the BCHL’s player of the month for the month of November.

Miller, from Spruce Grove, Alberta, is in his third season with the Vees and fifth season of junior hockey overall, after two years with the Olds Grizzlies in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Miller began the month of November with a five-game goal scoring streak and would finish the month with eight. Those eight goals combined with his 14 assists put him at 22 points in 13 November games.

The 22 points were more than he scored in any of his previous seasons, both with the Vees and Grizzlies. After returning from the University of New Hampshire after Christmas of last year, Miller scored twice with eight assists in 20 games.

In total Miller has racked up 43 points, with 15 goals, in 33 games this season. His 15 goals are the most by a Vees defenceman since Mike Reilly scored 24 during the 2011-12 season. His 43 points are also tops amongst BCHL defenceman, eight ahead of Victoria’s Carter Berger.

Miller’s stellar play helped lead the Vees to a 10-2-1-0 record during November.

During his BCHL career to date, Miller has posted 23 goals with 48 assists in 90 games. He played an additional 90 games in the AJHL, scoring seven goals with 25 assists.
