LANGLEY, B.C. – The Penticton Vees started their coastal road trip on winning note, beating the Langley Rivermen 4-3, Thursday at George Preston Arena.
Ryden Evers scored the game-winner with just over five minutes left in the third period that broke a 3-3 tie, as the Vees have now won back-to-back games and six of their last seven.
Penticton trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes, before they scored three unanswered goals in the second period, as they took a 3-1 lead into the third.
Luke Posthumus scored twice in the middle frame and Max Heise had the other goal. Two of those three goals in the second came on the power play.
“We have embraced the next man up mentality. We’re missing guys but we don’t use that as an excuse. I like we managed the game, even with our start of the third, when gave up two, we bounced back and finished strong. Character win,” commented Assistant Coach Matthew Vanden Berg.
Will Ingemann earned his 11th win of the season, as he stopped 19 of 22 shots.
Langley went ahead inside the final minute of the first period on a power play goal by Dalton MacGillivray.
In the second, Penticton came out and scored three goals on 11 shots. Posthumus tied the game at 5:05, when he buried a rebound at the side of the net on the power play.
Then, on another power play, Heise scored a minute and a half after Posthumus to put the Vees up 2-1. Heise hammered a one-timer from the left wing at 6:33. His team-leading 13th goal.
Posthumus picked up his second of the period at 14:25 after he scored on an odd-man rush. Anselmo Rego set up Posthumus with a cross-crease dish after rushing down the left-wing.
Langley came out and scored twice in the first five minutes of the third period to tie the game 3-3. Ryan Schelling made it 3-2 just 1:16 into the final frame, then Sebastian Bradshaw tied the game 3-3 at 4:42 as he scored from inside the crease.
Evers’ game-winner came just before the 15-minute mark. Nolan Stevenson fired the puck from the point and Evers tipped it home after camping out in front of the Langley net. Evers’ 10th goal and now has points in six of his last seven games.
