Milan Named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week
ALBANY, N.Y. ? Union College goaltender Corey Milan (Great Barrington, Mass.) has been named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week for play ending Sunday, February 10th, 2008. The honor marks the first for Milan, who allowed one goal on 49 shots over the weekend.
After stopping 16 shots in two periods of relief work against Harvard Friday, Milan earned his first career shutout with 32 saves in a scoreless tie against Dartmouth Saturday. The freshman allowed only one goal in 101:51 minutes in between the pipes over the weekend.
The former netminder for the Penticton Vees of the BCHL, Milan stands at 5-6-5 on the season with a .919 save percentage and a 2.44 goals against average. He ranks in the top five nationally among rookie goaltenders in GAA and seventh in save percentage.
In league play, Milan sports a 4-3-4 record with a sixth-best 2.21 GAA and .909 save percentage. He has gone 4-1-2 overall in the second half of the season, with a 1.77 GAA and .932 save percentage.
Union is back in action this weekend at Cornell and Colgate. The Dutchmen will look to gain valuable points at Cornell Friday, and to earn the season sweep of the Raiders Saturday at Starr Rink. The Dutchmen enter the weekend one point behind the Big Red in fifth place, and four points ahead of Colgate, which is within striking distance in eighth place.
