Vees add San Jose Sharks prospect to blue line

PENTICTON, B.C. – The Penticton Vees Junior Hockey is pleased to announce the signing of defenceman and San Jose Sharks’ prospect Michael Fisher (’04) for the 2024-25 season, the team announced Thursday.

Fisher comes to Penticton after spending this past season playing NCAA Division l men’s hockey at Northeastern University.

The 6’3 195-pound right-shot defenceman was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the third round, 76th overall, in the 2022 NHL Draft.

“Whenever you can add a top three round NHL draft pick with NCAA experience you know you are very fortunate,” began Vees President, General Manager, and Head Coach Fred Harbinson. “Michael has all the makings of an elite defenceman and will be counted on in all situations.”

Fisher, who turned 20 in May, suited up for 30 games with the Northeastern Huskies and finished with two points (1G, 1A). He scored his first career collegiate goal on October 26th against New Hampshire. The Westborough, MA, product was part of the Huskies 2024 men’s Beanpot championship squab, as the Huskies beat Boston University in the Final.

Prior to Northeastern, Fisher played for the Youngstown Phantoms in the United States Hockey League (USHL) in 2022-23. He was limited to 14 games due to injury but he and won a USHL Clark Cup championship. Fisher was teammates with graduating Vees’ forward James Fisher that season.

“I’m excited to have an opportunity to contribute to an organization with such a rich history. I can’t wait to get to Penticton and be part of a group looking to build off the success of this past season,” said Fisher.

After his 20-year-olds season, Fisher will rejoin Northeastern for the 2025-26 Hockey East season.

The Vees organization is excited to welcome Michael and his family to the South Okanagan for the upcoming season.
