The Countdown is On: Penticton Readying for Western Canada Cup

As the Western Canada Cup wrapped up in Estevan, Saskatchewan, last week the Penticton Vees officially find themselves on the clock as the hosts of next year’s tournament.

While the team has been planning for the event for months, the realization that the tournament is fast approaching has hit home.

“We’re now moving to executing on certain plans that had been laid out,” said Vees President, General Manager, and Head Coach Fred Harbinson. “It’s exciting to see it all start to come together.”

At this point, tickets are only open to existing season ticket holders.  That will change on July 1st, as an early bird package becomes available to the general public for the first time.

The response from the season ticket holders has been positive, and early projections are on target. “We are making an effort to reach out to each and every season ticket holder, as we want them to secure their seats at the best value” said Vees Director of Ticketing and Merchandise Laura Carleton. “

Another huge component of the tournament comes in the form of sponsorships and the Vees Director of Player Development and Corporate Sales David Michaud has been thrilled with the response from the Vees partners.  “We set out to create a limited number of Premier Partnerships, and we are almost sold out of those.  All of our corporate partners have been very understanding that we need a little extra help from them this season.  Our goal from day one was to help create the best possible event for our fans, and ultimately the community of Penticton.  We can’t achieve that without a little help, and I’m happy to say we are getting that support.”

The Western Canada Cup brings together the champions of the BCHL, AJHL, SJHL, and MJHL as well as the host Vees, starting April 29th, 2017.  The week promises to feature tremendous hockey on the ice, but also some special events off of it.  “We want the community to rally behind this” said Michaud.  “We expect the hotels to be busy, the restaurants to be full, and the downtown to be buzzing.  There are only two games per day at the Western Canada Cup, so people will be looking to fill their time when they visit our beautiful city.  This event will be a showcase not only for the Vees, but the entire community.”

Pricing information for the general public early bird package will be made available in late June.
