Preview: Vees face Silverbacks in first of six meetings

Penticton, BC: The Penticton Vees began the 2017-18 season on the right foot with a 4-2 win over the Merritt Centennials last Friday. Tonight they’ll play the only team they had a losing record against last season, the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

Despite a 32 point differential in the final standings of 2016-17, the Vees played to a 2-3-1 record against their Interior Division rivals last season.

Last week, the Vees got goals from Owen and Lukas Sillinger, Jonny Tychonick and Taylor Ward along with 26 saves from Nolan Hildebrand to lift them over the Centennials. Adam Scheel will start in goal for Penticton tonight, his first BCHL start.

In the season series against the Silverbacks last season, Owen Sillinger and Chris Klack both had four points in six games.

The Silverbacks, meanwhile, had a home and home series with the Vernon Vipers last weekend dropping both games by scores of 5-1 and 6-5. Mitchell Stapley led the way for the Silverbacks offensively against Vernon, scoring a goal and adding three assists from the blue line in the two losses. Bo Didur started both games in the crease for Salmon Arm, giving up all 11 goals.

The broadcast for tonight’s game can be watched live on HockeyTV, or heard on EZ Rock 800 AM and online at iHeartradio music.
