Leivermann named BCHL Player of the Week

Penticton, BC: Penticton Vees defenceman Nicky Leivermann has been recognized by the British Columbia Hockey League as the player of the week for the week ending November 19.

Wednesday, November 15, Leivermann picked up a power-play goal against the Surrey Eagles which stood up to be the game winner in the 7-1 Vees win.

Friday, Leivermann had a banner performance as he racked up his first career hat trick in an 11-3 route of the West Kelowna Warriors.

The Eden Prairie, Minnesota product then helped the Vees cap off an impressive week with an assist in the 10-1 win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals, extending the Vees win streak to four games.

In all, the seventh-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft has recorded six goals and 14 assists in 20 games this season, playing a major role in the Vees quest to stay in the tight Interior Division.

Also receiving recognition from the BCHL were Jonny Tychonick and Owen Sillinger. Tychonick, from Calgary, recorded 10 assists over the three games while Sillnger, the Vees co-captain, scored three times and assisted on five more goals. Both were named as honourable mentions for player of the week.

Tychonick has five goals and 16 assists on the season, just two points shy of his point total from his rookie season. Sillinger meanwhile is well on his way to setting career highs across the board, as he’s up to nine goals and 17 assists.

Leivermann becomes the second Vees players this season to be named a player of the week; Adam Scheel received the honour for the week ending October 8.

All three Vees will be in action Wednesday when the team travels to Trail for a big Interior Division match up against the Smoke Eaters.
