Vees Add Two Top Recruits
Thursday, May 9, 2013 - Submitted by Fraser Rodgers
 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Thursday, May, 2013

PENTICTON, BC– The Penticton Vees Jr. ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce forwards and Minnetonka High School teammates, Jack Ramsey (95) and Max Coatta (94) have committed for the 2013-2014 season.

Vees Head Coach & GM Fred Harbinson is happy to have the pair in the fold, “We are very pleased with both Jack and Max decision to further their hockey development in Penticton and the BCHL.”

Ramsey, 17, just completed his junior season of high school hockey for The Skippers. In 24 games, the Minnetonka native collected nine goals and 27 points and was an impressive plus 23. The 6’2 right-winger has a prototype power-forward build but also possesses great vision and hockey sense. Ramsey is committed to suit up for the Minnesota Golden Gophers in 2014. Ramsey’s father Mike played over one thousand regular season games in the NHL as a defenseman with Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Detroit and was a member of the 1980 US Olympic gold medal team in Lake Placid, New York.

Coatta, 18, captained The Skippers in his senior season of high school hockey, where he amassed 28 goals and 59 points in 27 games. Coatta holds program records in goals (89), assists (101) and points (190) and was a staggering +125 in 113 career games in his four seasons of varsity hockey. This past season Coatta was named to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune All-Metro Boys’ Hockey First Team. Outside the impressive offensive numbers, Coatta is known for his determined work ethic in all three zones.

The Vees recognize there has been an ongoing and healthy battle with the United States Hockey League (USHL) in regards to player recruitment. This rivalry was evident during the recent USHL draft where two current and two former Vees were selected, despite being uninterested. The addition of Ramsey and Coatta are two more to the long list of high profile Minnesotans’ who have committed to the Vees program.
