| Penticton Vees: Mentorship Program |
Penticton Vees Life Skills Mentorship Program:
- what is a mentor? ... "a trusted guide, a provider of wise counsel and advice, a confidant"
- roles of the mentor include:
- facilitator - listener
- assessor - regular, meaningful feedback
- forecaster - preparing for the future
- advisor - giving advice
- connector - linking with key people
Benefits of the Life Skills Mentorship Program:
- improve self confidence and self esteem
- receive direction, broaden horizons and learn from past mistakes
- increase knowledge and skills, develop ethics and standards
- provide career and interest advancement and networking opportunities
- enhance creativity and improve problem solving techniques
- orientate new players
- develop new career paths
- develop future leaders
- increase a player's control over career progress
Coach's Message in regards to the Life Skills Membership Program:
Our goal is not just to make better hockey players, but to make our players better people. We do this by teaching them the life skills they need to succeed. --- Fred Harbinson
Penticton Vees Chaplaincy Program:
- the Vees' Team Chaplain is Joey Cyr
- the Chaplaincy Program consists of mentoring, conseling and giving guidance to our players in many off-ice situations
- building a great hockey club means building great people and building great people begins from the inside out, which is a core value of the Chaplaincy Program
- helping young athletes make good choice and succeed in life is one of the benchmark of this program
- this has proven to be valuable to many players over the years
- it also includes holding voluntary weekly chapels, as well as presence for many team events and functions
- spiritual counseling is available to all
