Penticton Vees graduating forward Tyson Jost (‘98) was named the Top Forward at the recently completed World Under-18 Hockey Championship, in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Jost was also named to the tournament All-Star team voted on by the accredited media members.
The former Vees’ Captain led the tournament in scoring with 15 points in seven games, which is a new Canadian scoring record at the event, which was previously held by Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid; his 15 points was seven points better than any of his teammates. Jost record two five-point games against Denmark and Switzerland and was named the Player of the Game on two occasions.
Teammate Dante Fabbro (’98) had a great showing as well, as he finished with eight points, all assists, which ranked third amongst defencemen at the tournament, behind teammate David Quenneville and American Adam Fox. Fabbro also received a Player of the Game award during the preliminary round.
Canada finished fourth, losing out to the USA 10-3 in Sunday’s Bronze Medal game. Canada lost a heartbreaker, 6-5 to Sweden in Semi-Final action Saturday. Finland defeated the Swedes in Sunday’s Gold Medal game.
Next up for Jost and Fabbro is the 2016 NHL Draft Combine in Buffalo, New York, which is slated for June. The annual event is overseen by NHL Central Scouting and brings approximately 100 top prospects for the NHL draft into one place for interviews with NHL teams, and medical and physical testing.
