Driscoll, Fabbro Nominated for CJHL Awards

The Penticton Vees Jr. ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce goaltender Zach Driscoll (’97) and defenceman Dante Fabbro (’98) have both been named finalists for Canadian Junior Hockey league (CJHL) national awards for their respective position.

Driscoll is a top five finalist for the CJHL Top Goaltender Award and Fabbro is up for the Top Defenceman Award. Award winners will be announced the week of May 9th-13th.

Driscoll, 18, won the BCHL Top Goaltender Award after posting a league-best .933 save percentage and league-low 1.90 goals-against average and finished third in shutouts with four. The Apple Valley, Minnesota, product posted a record of 21-4-0-0 in 26 regular season games, and allowed more than three goals only once in the and won eight-straight decisions after joining the Vees in early October. He’s committed to St. Cloud State University and is likely to begin his collegiate career this fall.

Fabbro led all BCHL rear-guards in points with 67, despite only playing in 45 games, as missed a chunk of games in December,  winning a gold medal with Team Canada West at the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge. Fabbro finished second in goals (14) and assists (49) but had the best points per-game average (1.47) amongst blue-liners. Fabbro recently played for Team Canada at the 2016 World Under-18 Hockey Championship in Grand Forks, North Dakota, helping Canada to a fourth place finish. Fabbro was the third-highest scoring defencemen in that tournament, registering eight points, all assists, in seven games. Fabbro is off to Boston University for the 2016-17 season.
